Dave is a trained Spiritual Director and an adjunct faculty member at Talbot School of Theology. He is a cohort leader for the Spiritual Formation Core program where he facilitates small groups, leads retreats, and provides spiritual direction to graduate students. He has also been on pastoral staff with churches in the Long Beach area for the past 16 years.
Dave was drawn to Soul Shepherding when the unrelenting pace of ministry and a bitter church conflict left him feeling dry and disconnected from God. Despite being an experienced spiritual director and seminary-trained pastor, he was ready to go back to his old job in the medical field. Instead, he kept meeting with Bill for counseling and in a monthly pastors’ group. He took a Sabbatical. He de-stressed. He grieved. He spent extended time with his wife and children. He recovered emotionally.
Dave completed Soul Shepherding’s certificate program in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care Ministry and is now part of the staff providing spiritual direction, sabbatical coaching, retreats, and seminars among other duties. He says, “I’m a testimonial of Soul Shepherding’s care for pastors.” (“Renewing Pastors (Beat Burnout)” tells more of his story.) Dave also has a BA in Psychology, a Master’s in Christian Apologetics, and a Master’s in Divinity with an emphasis in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care.
Dave and his wife Rebecca live in Lakewood, California and are the proud parents of 3 adult children and two teenagers.
